Courses

A mother stopped me at the end of a parents’ evening once, holding her daughter’s reading record, and apologised before she asked her question. She did ten minutes every night at the kitchen table. She wanted to know whether it was the right ten minutes.

Nobody had ever told her. Not because anyone was withholding it, but because schools are busy places and that conversation takes twenty minutes and there were fourteen more parents in the corridor behind her. The curriculum is public. What to actually do with it, on a Tuesday, with a tired seven-year-old, is not.

That is what these courses are. Each one is a year group, taught the way I would teach it to you at the school gate if we had the time — a short video for each idea, a printable lesson card with worked answers, and the charts and sheets already made. They are for parents, and tutors use them as a ready-made scheme. Everything downloads the moment you buy it, and it is yours to keep.

The Knowing Practitioner — £89

Most early years CPD tells practitioners what to do. This asks them what they already know about the children in front of them, and then builds on it.

Six modules: Knowing the Child, Care as Curriculum, Communication and Language, High Challenge Low Threat, Behaviour Regulation and Wellbeing, and Knowing Yourself as a Practitioner. Ninety minutes of self-study and an hour of team discussion each — fifteen hours in all. Six videos, six booklets and six slide decks in PDF and editable form, a reflective journal, a CPD evidence log with an INSET guide, and a certificate to complete.

For individual practitioners recording CPD, and for setting leaders who need a staff development programme that does not need writing from scratch. The certificate is a record of CPD undertaken, not a regulated qualification.

Year 6 Ready — £89

Most marks lost in Year 6 are lost to method, not knowledge: misreading the question, not showing working, answering a three-mark question with one point. And writing is not tested at all — it is assessed across the year’s work, so there is nothing to cram.

All four subjects. Maths, 10 videos and 69 lesson cards. Reading, 8 videos and 37 cards. Writing, 6 videos and 26 cards. Grammar, punctuation and spelling, 5 videos and 28 cards. Four companion books, every slide deck, a course map per subject, and the full chart library.

£89 for all four, against £121 bought separately.

Year 5 Ready — £79

Year 5 introduces more new content than any other primary year, and it does it without a test at the end to concentrate anyone’s mind. Long multiplication, primes, percentages, relative clauses, parenthesis — all new, all in one year.

Maths, 8 videos and 37 lesson cards. Reading, 6 videos and 20 cards. Writing, 5 videos and 16 cards. Grammar, punctuation and spelling, 4 videos and 16 cards. Four companion books, every slide deck, a course map per subject, and the full chart library.

£79 for all four, against £101 bought separately.

Year 2 Ready — £69

Year 2 is the year the basics have to become automatic. Nothing in it is dramatic — the same reading, writing and arithmetic as Year 1, but faster and more secure. The children for whom it does not get faster are the ones who start to find school hard in Year 3.

Eighteen videos and thirty-two lesson cards across the four subjects, with a Year 1 readiness checklist to start from and eight handwriting sheets. Printables for the whole year: hundred square, number lines, tens frames, place value mats, times tables, handwriting in print and cursive, phonics phases 3 to 6, phoneme and digraph charts, the first 300 high frequency words, and Year 2 common exception words.

£69 for all four, against £96 bought separately.

Year 1 Ready — £69

Year 1 is the year school stops being mostly play. Decode words, form letters on a line, add within twenty, and sit a phonics check in June. Most children manage it. Almost all of their parents want to know, at some point that year, whether what is happening at the kitchen table is the right thing.

Eighteen videos and twenty-nine lesson cards across the four subjects, with a Reception readiness checklist to start from and eight handwriting sheets. Printables for the whole year, phonics phases 2 to 5, the first 300 high frequency words, and Year 1 common exception words.

Run two subjects at a time, two cards a week each. Four subjects at once is how good intentions die in October.

£69 for all four, against £91 bought separately.

Year 3 Ready — £59

Year 3 is where the column method arrives, and with it the first wrong answer a parent cannot explain. Ask a child to work out 304 minus 128 and watch the middle column. The subtraction is not the problem. Knowing what to do when there is nothing to take from is.

Seventeen videos and thirty-one lesson cards across the four subjects, four companion books, every slide deck, a course map per subject, and the full chart library.

£59 for all four, against £81 bought separately.

Year 4 Ready — £59

Year 4 has one date in it: the multiplication tables check in June. Twenty-five questions, six seconds each. It is not a hard test and it is not worth anxiety, but a child still counting up in sevens cannot answer in six seconds.

Sixteen videos and thirty-two lesson cards across the four subjects, four companion books, every slide deck, a course map per subject, and the full chart library. Writing is the thinnest part of this one — three videos and four cards — and I would rather say so here than have you find out after paying.

£59 for all four, against £81 bought separately.
